Travel Warning: Uk Upgrades Terror Threat Level For Sweden – Is It Safe? express.co.uk

Sweden travellers have been advised to be cautious as the terror threat level warning has been increased by the UK government.

As a popular holiday destination, with Stockholm and Gothenburg two popular cities to visit, many Britons head to the country during the festive period.

The Christmas markets attract travellers from all over the world.
According to the Gov.uk website: “Terrorists are very likely to try to carry out attacks in Sweden.

“Attacks could be indiscriminate, including in places visited by foreigners.

“There’s a heightened threat of terrorist attack globally against UK interests and British nationals from groups or individuals motivated by the conflict in Iraq and Syria. You should be vigilant at this time.”

Swedish police security Säpo currently place the threat level at three, on a scale of one to five, or “elevated”.

This has been in place since March 2016, where it was reduced from four on the scale.
According to TheLocal.se, the increase was made "based on updated information and advice on the threat from terrorism in Sweden, reflecting an increased threat”.

Säpo told Expressen they were “aware of the change” but did not comment on other warning systems.

There has not been a terrorist incident in the country this year, with the last attack taking place in 2017.

Last year, a man drove a truck into pedestrians in Stockholm, killing four people and injuring 14.
