Inside ‘Death Trap’ Tower where residents are scared to sleep in own homes mirror.co.uk
Inside the ‘death trap’ tower block, residents open the maintenance cupboards in a corridor infested with damp. Pipework and walls are encrusted with thick mould. Water drips right next to an open box full of electrical wires. “I’m not even sleeping in my flat at the moment,” says Shevonne Williams, 24, the resident who raised the alarm. “I don’t feel safe there. I can hear wires crackling, my cooker is sparking up and keeps making banging noises. “We had an independent fire risk assessment that said it was moderate to high risk. We know what happened at Grenfell so recently, but yet again no one seems to value the lives of social tenants.” Clyde House is part of a smart new riverside development in Putney, West London developed by Barratt Homes, and maintained by A2Dominion – a residential property group “with a social purpose” and £300m turnover.
