Martha Bernay, the matriarch of a prominent Hollywood labor family, died last Thursday of natural causes, the Art Directors Guild announced. She was 95. Bernay was a long-time member of the Illustr… Bernay was born in 1921 in New York, the youngest of four children. The following year, her family moved to Los Angeles. At 18 years old, Bernay married her husband Josef, with whom she had three children. During their lifetime, the couple traveled to several destinations around the world, including Japan, Canada, and China. They were married for 50 years until Josef passed away in 1990. Bernay was known as “Granny” to her dogs Bizou, Chester, and Tiger.
