BBC TV licence row: MPs demand VOTE on free TV licences as 3.7m pensioners face knife express.co.uk
BORIS Johnson will face growing pressure to save free TV licenses for all over-75s as he faces a Commons vote on the issue. A group of Labour MPs have tabled an amendment to the Queen's Speech which expresses regret at there being no proposals to protect the concession in the Prime Minister's legislative programme.
They warn that 3.7 million pensioners across the UK could lose their free TV licence as a result of the policy, adding this will lead to an increase in poverty and loneliness.
The Conservative Party election manifesto in 2017 pledged to protect free licences.
