At least 600 prisoners have taken control of four wings of one of the country’s biggest prisons, plunging the complex into absolute chaos.
The massive disturbance, which erupted at HMP Birmingham just after 9am on Friday morning, has now been raging for more than 12 hours.
‘Tornado’ squads from different parts of the country, including HMP Preston and Strangeways prison in Manchester, were urgently drafted in to try and control the outbreak.
