Labour’s Leading Pro-Israel Mp Loses Vote Of No Confidence As Latest Purge Is Broadcast By Banned Iranian Tv Station telegraph.co.uk
The purge against Labour moderates has gathered pace with two MPs – including the chairman of Labour Friends of Israel – losing no confidence votes last night. Party members last night voted to deselect both Joan Ryan and Gavin Shuker. The vote is the first stage in the process to deselect the moderate Labour MP.
Ms Ryan, a leading pro-Israel MP who has been a member of the Labour Party for 34 years, lost a vote of no confidence over her criticism of Jeremy Corbyn in the anti-Semitisim row within the party. Ms Ryan, the MP for Enfield North who chairs Labour Friends of Israel , was targeted for deselection by members of her local party, who claimed she had “smeared” Mr Corbyn’s character.
