Sisters Must Repay £830,000 From 'cancer Cure' Swindle express.co.uk
A PAIR of scheming sisters who raked in a fortune selling fake diet supplements and bogus treatments for cancer have been ordered to hand over £830,000.
Helen Buchan, 52, and Carol Wiseman, 50, used their company Secret Diet Drops as a front for their dodgy goods.
They used a website to claim that the “Secret Diet Drops” would assist weight loss and their “Apple Cider Vinegar” would kill cancer cells.
The siblings, of Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire, set up the -company in 2011 and each made a six-figure sum in the first two years of trading.
But, despite being warned by Trading Standards inspectors, the pair failed to stop selling the fakes and only made minor -alterations to their website.
An investigation was launched which led to them appearing at Peterhead Sheriff Court in March 2016 and admitting two charges under consumer protection laws.
The pair made a total of £1,627,552.02 from their criminal enterprise.
They were given 180 hours’ unpaid work in the community as an alternative to jail while the company was fined £9,000.
Prosecutors launched a proceeds of crime investigation and have now ordered them to hand over a total of £826,822.11.
