The Future Of Pharma: How We Could Soon Be Prescribed Personalised 4d Printed Drugs express.co.uk
BMW are already using 3D printing parts in their cars and Airbus are already flying planes made with 3D printed parts – and now a new frontier of drug manufacturing and delivery is about to start harnessing the technology. Scientists at Hebrew University’s 3D and Functional Printing Centre have created prototypes of printed drugs which they promise will be “programmable and personalised medicine”. These chemical compounds will not only be synthesised using stereolithography (3D printing), but will be “smart” objects that can adapt to their environments – known as 4D printing.
Using 3D and 4D printing technologies, the drugs will have the ability to personalize prescription medicines, allowing doctors to tailor the exposure and dosage levels for individual patients.
What we have done is a create a concept of controlling the release of drugs by printing hydrogels

Professor Shlomo Magdassi, the head of the Hebrew University research team responsible for the wave of prototypes, exclusively reveals to Express.co.uk: “3D printing is changing our world and it is considered to be the next industrial revolutio
