For many it will feel that the latest market sell-off has come out of the clear blue sky. Aren’t we being told that the global economy – and the US in particular – is doing pretty well right now? Why then are equities taking fright – with the US Dow Jones Industrial Average taking a 830-point plunge yesterday and Asian and European markets following suit today?
The slightly Wonderland answer is that equity investors are worried precisely because the global economy is in such fine fettle.
