An insurance agent, Stefaniak loved to travel and post photos on Instagram. In her last Instagram post on Nov. 25, she laid near a pool with tropical plants in the background. “I’m going to miss the place,” she wrote.
Stefaniak went to Costa Rica with her sister-in-law, but she booked a return flight the day before Stefaniak. An Uber driver took her on a tour of San Jose, then dropped Stefaniak off at the Airbnb around 5 p.m. on her last night of the trip.
Police discovered what appeared to be blood in the apartment where Stefaniak stayed in the San Antonio de Escazu neighborhood and analyzed surveillance video from the apartment complex.
Walter Espinoza, head of the country’s Judicial Investigation Department, said the images in the video did not align with Espinosa Martinez’s statements.
“It’s too much for us,” her father, Carlos Stefaniak, told ABC Action News in Tampa from Costa Rica. He showed a photo of his four children – Carla and her sister, and their two brothers. “That’s my team. They are incomplete.”
