Tears But ‘no Trouble’ From England Fans After Crushing World Cup Loss
Scenes of fans climbing on cars, buses and ambulances after England’s win over Sweden at the weekend threatened to mar celebrations as the team prepared for their semi-final match last night. Police was prepared for more trouble as the Three Lions took on Croatia but have thanked fans for holding back on the alcohol-fuelled disorder. Sadly, it just wasn’t meant to be for England at the 2018 World Cup.
Despite a valiant effort, the team will come home without the Jules Rimet trophy after losing 2-1 to Croatia. And while defeat is a huge disappointment, many were able to celebrate Gareth Southgate’s boys’ historic performance throughout the tournament. Despite reports of brawls and vandalism in certain areas of the UK, police said the vast majority of fans left pubs and parks ‘with their heads held high and without issue’ yesterday.
